About the Program

The Media Management Department offers a 6 semester Bachelor of Arts Program. The core curriculum focuses on economic and managerial aspects and provides students with a foundation for careers in media companies. A unique combination of economics, technology, content, design, and media production contributes to the excellent reputation of the study course. Students receive key knowledge in all media disciplines which enables them to work successfully in a converging digital world.

Curriculum

The basic course of study includes the following modules:

• Business, Economics, Law
• Accounting and Finances
• Media Economics
• Key Competence
• Fundamentals of Statistics/Media Research
• Fundamentals of Applied Sciences

In Stage II students deal with:

• Media Management
• Project Management
• Media and Communication Science
• Content and Design
• Media Technologies

A subsequent specialization in media management as well as conceptual design and production is required. In the final year the curriculum offers flexibility in choosing elective courses according to the students’ special interests.

Please be aware that courses are usually held in German.

 

Job Relevance

As a so-called “Fachhochschule” the Hochschule der Medien emphasizes the practical relevance of studies. All of our professors have long lasting experience in the fields they teach and cultivate contacts with leading media companies.

The HdM integrates a 6-month internship semester to guarantee that students gain practical work experience before graduation and meet prospective employers.

 

Graduates

Graduates are able to professionally deal with complex media contexts. This includes the aptitude to manage media projects (ranging from print, to film, up to audio and internet/crossmedia projects) as well as the know-how to be able to work in areas such as production, sales, marketing, controlling, organization and accounting.

The final degree also qualifies for a post-graduate master’s degree.

 

Technical Infrastructure

All fields of media are professionally equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Our facilities and studios for sound recording, television and film, computer animation and interactive media are among the best in educational institutions in Europe.
